YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris Men's Soccer team has added a new face to the coaching staff. Former Union University standout forward Gavin Scott is the new Assistant Coach for the Mountain Lions. Gavin brings a vast amount of experience to the Enchanted Valley after leading Midwestern State men's soccer to a Lone Star Conference (LSC) Championship and then coaching Mustangs Women's Soccer as a graduate assistant.

"I'm very excited and thankful to be given the opportunity to join the Young Harris Men's Soccer staff to assist Coach Grey," said Scott. "The chance to be part of such a prestigious program doesn't come around often! I can't wait to get going with the lads in preseason and continue the success they have already achieved!"

As a Graduate Assistant at Midwestern State, Scott helped the women's soccer team to a 10-5-5 record and an appearance in the Lonestar Conference Tournament Semifinals. Scott coached an All-South Central Region player, a Lonestar All-Conference First Team player, one All-Conference Second Team player, and three All-Conference Third Team players.

Prior to coaching, Gavin played for four years at Union University (2018 - 2021) and one at Midwestern State (2022). As a forward at Union, Scott scored 31 goals, which made him the Union University Record holder for goals scored in the D2 era. Additionally, he helped his team to a Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series Title in 2021 and earned an assist on the game winning goal.
 
Through four seasons, Scott accumulated numerous accolades. In 2019, he earned GSC Offensive Player of the Week and D2CCA All-South Region honors. In 2021, Scott was the GSC Spring Championship Series Most Valuable Player, earned GSC Postseason All-Tournament Team recognition, and was named to the D2CCA All-South Region team.
 
In his lone season at Midwestern State, he scored three goals in 14 appearances and five starts. He finished the season with two game-winning goals and seven points. The Mustangs went on to win the Lone Star Conference Tournament and pick up a 1-0 victory in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament over Biola (Calif.) before falling 1-0 to fifth seeded Saint Mary's in the second round.
 
Scott got his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Union University and then earned his Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from Midwestern State. Gavin excelled off the pitch as well, earning academic awards throughout his career including being named to the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Honor Roll four times, made the GSC All-Academic team, and garnered CoSida All-District and Cosida All-America honors in 2021.
 
Gavin Scott is from Ayr. Scotland and is the son of Ian and Roseann Scott.
